Rough-sawn non-load-bearing timber: uses and selection

Rough-sawn non-load-bearing timber retains a more natural sawn surface and is intended for general work that does not require a specified structural member. H3 treated options are commonly considered for suitable above-ground exterior exposure, general construction, landscaping features and utility work. This product should not be substituted for structural framing where a verified structural grade is required. Tell us whether the timber will be covered, exposed to weather or used close to the ground so the treatment requirement can be checked.

Common applications

  • General non-structural construction
  • Outdoor utility and landscaping projects
  • Battens, blocking and temporary works where suitable
  • Rustic or rough-finish timber features

Check before ordering

  • Whether the member carries structural load
  • Required treatment for its exposure
  • Nominal size, length and quantity
  • Surface finish and dimensional tolerance needed

When to choose another timber product

Use structural framing timber where plans or engineering require graded structural members. Choose dressed timber for smooth visible work, or H4 pine posts for suitable ground-contact post applications.
